Javier Calleja acknowledged the Villarreal bench after the win over Malaga, noting his side was tired from the Europa League.
Nicola Sansone scored twice to beat struggling Malaga, entering the match just past the hour and grabbing a brace to keep the Yellow Submarine within touching distance of the top four.
“We had injuries, and that cost us a lot. The bench has contributed a lot. The game was very close, we needed people to contribute in attack, and the balance went in our favour,” Calleja said, AS reports, after naming a side with a number of young players in the starting XI.
“This is a victory of great importance. Our home-grown players have to be congratulated. They show in each game they are excellent players who help us in every way possible.”
