Nacho laments ‘painful’ defeat

Nacho Fernandez admits Real Madrid’s defeat at Girona was ‘painful’ and expressed concern the side lacked their usual ‘confidence’.

Two goals in the space of four minutes from Christian Stuani and Portu turned the game on its head earl in the second half and Zinedine Zidane’s side failed to respond in the final half hour.

“It was a painful loss,” Nacho is quoted as saying by Marca.

“We were playing well and scored first but we could not respond when they came back into the match, we had no answers.

“Usually we are a very confident team and find ways to win but this match was different and after a bad spell we could not react positively.

“The league standings? Eight points to the gap is not favourable for us but we are Real Madrid and we know anything is possible. There are still many points left to play for.”

It was Madrid’s second defeat of the campaign following a 1-0 home loss to Real Betis last month.
