Athletic Bilbao have confirmed defender Yeray Alvarez has beaten testicular cancer for the second time in under a year.
The 22-year-old’s recovered from a diagnosis in December last year before an abnormality was found in June, meaning he had to undergo a new course of the treatment.
“The treatment phase scheduled in June for the disease has ended,” read an Athletic Club statement.
“In the next few days [Yeray] will be discharged and will begin the phase of progressive incorporation to the team.
“At the same time, an active surveillance program will be planned.”
Yeray’s chemotherapy appears to have been a success and reports in the Spanish press believe he could return to training with the Basque club imminently.
