Valverde won’t pressurise Iniesta deal

Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde has revealed he will not force Andres Iniesta into signing an extended contract at the club.

The 33-year-old’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2018 and the midfielder recently denied claims by president Josep Maria Bartomeu that there was an ‘agreement in principle’ for a renewal.

However, Valverde was diplomatic when asked about his captain’s future and said he was focusing on ensuring all of his player’s were ‘happy’ and felt ‘wanted’.

“Everyone owns their own life,” Valverde is quoted as saying by Diario Sport.

“I want all my players here to fell wanted, to feel happy and to give their all for the team, and that includes Andres.

“Rotation? Yes that is something we have to consider with every player, especially when there is competition for places and you want to keep all players fresh.

“We must think of Iniesta’s own situation and ensure he gets appropriate rest but the same is also true for (Sergio) Busquets and (Ivan) Rakitic, along with our other players.”
