Sergi Samper set for Las Palmas

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper is set to complete a season-long loan move to Las Palmas, according to reports in Spain.

La Provincia state the two clubs have reached an agreement and the 22-year-old is set to travel to Gran Canaria on Wednesday to complete his move.

Having played on loan at Granada last season, Samper will become the sixth summer signing for Los Amarillos, who fought off competition from Alaves and Girona.

He will replace Roque Mesa, now at Swansea, in the side’s squad and follows on after the club missed out on other targets such as Matias Kranevitter and Alex Song.

The central midfielder, who has been at the Camp Nou since the age of six, has made only nine first-team appearances for the Blaugrana with only one coming in La Liga.

Marca reported earlier this month he was informed he was not in Ernesto Valverde’s first team plans at the Camp Nou this season and the Catalan club plan to loan him out to a fellow La Liga side.

Samper started only 13 La Liga fixtures for Granada last season despite arriving in Andalucia highly regarded following his progression through La Masia youth academy.
