Valverde: Madrid not invincible

Ernesto Valverde believes Real Madrid ‘are not invincible’ and also hinted the club were hopeful of signing Philippe Coutinho before the weekend.

Barcelona crashed to a 5-1 Supercopa aggregate defeat to Madrid as the former Athletic Bilbao Coach became only the third Barca manager to lose his first two games at the club.

“There are no invincible teams, if there is one certainty in sport then it is that every single team will lose on any given day,” Valverde is quoted as saying by Marca.

“When you lose and have the feeling that your opponent has been superior to you then all we can do is assess the technical side of the game.

“Psychologically we wanted to win but we did not and we now must recover psychologically…but we are a strong team and we will find solutions.

“Coutinho? I do not know if he will arrive in time (for Real Betis match).

“Suarez injury? It’s a knock on the knee but we don’t know the extent of any damage yet.”
