Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has appeared to soften the club’s stance on a potential exit for star forward Neymar.
Earlier this month, Bartomeu told reporters the 25-year-old’s €222m release clause at Camp Nou was ‘impossible to activate’ but now he has confirmed the club would be powerless if the player decided to leave.
“Neymar is one of our best players and we do not want to lose him,” Bartomeu told the New York Times in an interview.
“We want him to continue with us, he still has four years left, but the players decide if they want to go so there's nothing more to say.
“We need him because, if we want to win, we need to have the best players.”
