Athletic Bilbao have qualified for next season’s Europa League third qualifying round following Barcelona’s Copa Del Rey triumph.
Athletic finished seventh in La Liga last season, initially not enough for a Europa League place, but with Barca having already qualified for the Champions League and Alaves losing in the Final, Los Leones will play in Europe for the fourth straight campaign.
As well as the third qualifying round, the Basques will also have to contest the playoff round, which will include 15 teams eliminated from the aforementioned phase in the Champions League.
Real Sociedad have also benefitted from Barca’s win on Saturday as they are fast-tracked into the tournament’s group stage.
