Atletico Madrid bids farewell to the Vicente Calderon this afternoon against Athletic Bilbao, but it could also be curtains for at least one Coach.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone on what’s next: “We’ve always said that well finish the season first, and I’ll sit down with Miguel Angel [Gil Marin] and Andrea Berta on Monday to see what the future holds, and we’ll look for what’s best for the club and everyone.”

On his memories of the Calderon: “My memories of football here are wonderful. I was accepted by the people here, long before I started giving things to the club and team.

“The first season was hard and difficult, but I met [then-President] Jesus Gil, who I remember fondly because he was a demanding guy.

“We fought, we talked, but I always liked him because we had a direct and hand-to-hand relationship.

“He told me on my first day here that to play for Atletico, I had to give 110 percent.

“After that, my second season was one of the best in the club’s history. That 2-0 win against Albacete will always remain a tremendously exciting memory.

“It paved the way for a title that hadn’t come in 25 years. It was possibly the highest point of my career as a player.

“As a Coach, I started to see Atletico among the best teams, although it’s true that we have situations to improve on.

“It’s clear that both as a player and Coach, the Calderon is a place that’ll stay with me forever.”

Athletic boss Ernesto Valverde on his future: ”Sunday is our last League game and it’s time to make the decisions, once the League is over.

“It’ll be analysed over time, whether it was good or bad to have announced it when we did.

“Once the game is over, you’ll know. We’re playing for the Europa League and you [reporters] are really looking to get out of here with me saying something other than the game?”
