Pepe and Real Madrid are no closer to agreeing terms on a contract renewal and a scheduled meeting with Jorge Mendes isn’t going to take place.
AS reports that though a sit-down with Mendes, Pepe’s representative, had been reported for this week, that’s no now longer the case.
Pepe wants to sign a two-year extension at Santiago Bernabeu and in the derby with Atletico Madrid last weekend received vocal support from the fans.
But Madrid only want to offer a one-year contract and haven’t changed their stance even amid pressure from the stands to tie down the veteran.
Pepe suffered two broken ribs in the derby and had hoped his performances on the pitch in the final month of the season could persuade the club to offer a longer-term deal, but his injury puts that possibility into question.
