Barcelona assistant Juan Carlos Unzue has hinted that he would like to succeed Luis Enrique. “I hope I don’t have more time for cycling next season!”
Unzue has emerged as a frontrunner for the Barca job over the last few days, with Sky Sports UK reporting at the weekend that the former goalkeeper was odds-on in its La Liga coverage.
“I hope I don’t have more time for cycling next season. It’s not my intention,” he told RAC1, in reference to his brother Eusebio being team manager of cycling giants Movistar Team.
“When you’re a Coach, time for hobbies comes later.”
Enrique, who will vacate his position as Coach once his contract expires in June, has already thrown his support behind the Basque.
“It’d be impossible for me to be angry with Unzue if he replaced me because we’ve known each other for many years,” he said before the Catalans’ 4-2 win against Valencia on Sunday.
