Sporting blitz downs Granada

Three goals in the space of seven minutes saw Sporting Gijon defeat Granada and reignite their push for survival in La Liga.

Icelandic defender Sverrir Ingi Ingason – a January signing for the Andalucians – gave Lucas Alcaraz’s men the lead six minutes after the break but the hour mark saw a crazy spell where the visitors ran riot over their beleaguered opponents.

Loan signing Lacina Traore levelled things up before Jean-Sylvain Babin put Rubi’s side in front four minutes later, while it took only a further three minutes for Carlos Carmona to net for the Asturians.

Traore added another two minutes later which was correctly ruled out for offside then missed a late penalty for the hosts to add further gloss to the scoreline.

El Grana had been infuriated in the seventh minute when Ingason’s headed goal was disallowed for supposed climbing on Mikel Vesga.

Granada now fall to 19th in the table following their third loss in a row, allowing Sporting to stride past them and to within five points of safety.
