Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic has signed a new contract at Barcelona which will see him remain at Camp Nou until 2021.
The 28-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation after going from 3rd December to 22nd January without starting a match, but a new buyout clause of €125m will quieten any rumours of a move away from the club.
"I want to sit down with the club because I want to renew my contract and stay here for many years,” the former Sevilla captain was quoted as saying by Marca in January, when media speculation linked him to a move to Manchester City.
The 29-year-old, who joined the Catalans three years ago, has started six of the past eight La Liga fixtures under Luis Enrique and also started Wednesday’s 6-1 victory at home to Paris Saint-Germain.
New contracts at the Camp Nou have also been given to Javier Mascherano, Sergio Busquets, Neymar and Luis Suarez this season, while they are hoping to tie down Lionel Messi to a new deal.
