Yeray Alvarez has been called up for Athletic Bilbao’s clash with Sporting Gijon on Sunday, just a month after cancer surgery.
It caps off a miraculous recovery for Yeray, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer on December 23 and operated on four days later.
The defender was told on January 5 that he would not need further surgery and resumed training a week later, although he was not formally discharged until the 19th.
He is joined back in Los Leones contention by Aritz Aduriz and Benat Etxebarria, both of whom were suspended for last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Atletico Madrid.
However, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, defender Xabi Etxeita and attackers Ager Aketxe and Sabin Merino are not included on the grounds of injury.
