Betis chase Olympiakos defender

Real Betis are hopeful of signing Olympiakos and Greece defender Dimitris Siovas in the January transfer window, say reports in Spain.

The 28-year-old was briefly coached by new Betis boss Victor Sanchez del Amo at the start of the season and the club's Sporting Director Miguel Torrecilla attempted to sign him over the summer, report Estadio Deportivo.

Now the Seville-based newspaper states that Sanchez has given the green light for Los Verdiblancos to go back to the Greek champions as he attempts to bolster his defence.

The former Depor boss managed Olympiakos for two matches before being dismissed after failing to progress past Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Champions League preliminary stages and Siovas has since found playing minutes in Greece scare, only featuring twice under new manager Paulo Bento.

Having won 12 caps for Greece and been a fixture in the Olympiakos defence since joining them in 2012, he is seen to offer the right experience and balance to a Betis backline who have 22 goals in 11 matches this campaign.
