Leganes ‘historic triumph, but…’

Leganes Coach Asier Garitano hailed his side’s ‘historic’ La Liga opener victory at Celta Vigo but ‘there’s no euphoria about this game.’

Garitano oversaw a first-ever top flight win for the newly-promoted side, the points delivered by a Victor Diaz goal, but he warned against getting carried away.

“It’s going to take us a lot of games to get accustomed to this great League. We’re obviously happy because it’s an historic triumph but there’s no euphoria about this game,” he said post-match, Marca reports.

“The hallmarks of how we want to play are there. Sometimes we’ll be better or worse but we want to compete in any situation. We suffered in the first 20 minutes, then we improved. The players had to suffer a lot in the first half.

“I’m very happy because we knew of all the virtues of Celta. We had to give a good version of ourselves and we did it.”
