Espanyol are fragile, admits QSF

Quique Sanchez Flores admits Espanyol “are a fragile team” and “must be totally different” to the one that lost 6-4 to Sevilla in Saturday’s La Liga opener.

Espanyol had led 3-2 in the match, until Luciano Vietto’s equaliser just before half-time acted as the catalyst to four Sevilla goals without reply, and Sanchez Flores did not mince his words when asked for an assessment of what he saw at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

“We were very weak defensively,” the Coach said after the game.

“We’re a fragile team. They demanded a lot of us and kept us on our toes, and we had no response.

“We were fragile, but it was a surprise because we hadn’t been in preseason.

“We’ll push ourselves throughout the season to improve. In midfield and the areas behind, we must be a totally different team.

“We knew that Sevilla were going to react well to being hurt. They placed a demand on us that we were unable to counter.

“This is the first time I’ve conceded six goals. I don’t remember conceding six goals in 13 years.

“For the fans it’s nice, but Coaches suffer a lot when they can’t control [the scoreline].”
