Caicedo on Villarreal agenda

Villarreal are weighing up a move for Espanyol striker Felipe Caicedo after Roberto Soldado was ruled out for six months.

Soldado suffered a serious knee injury in the Teresa Herrera Trophy game against Deportivo la Coruna on Tuesday and the search for a replacement has taken in Ecuador hitman Caicedo, according to El Periodico del Mediterraneo.

The Yellow Submarine face a Champions League qualifier against Monaco next week and, although they do want to rush into any panic buying just yet, are aware their attack may need strengthening before the summer transfer window closes on August 31.

Other names to have been suggested are Fiorentina’s Giuseppe Rossi, who was on loan at relegated Levante last season and played for Villarreal between 2007 and 2013, and Mariano of Real Madrid.
