‘Sevilla excited & fearless for Super Cup’

Jose Castro insists Sevilla are “very excited and fearless” for the European Super Cup against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game in Norway marks the third-straight Super Cup appearance for Sevilla, having won as many Europa Leagues since 2014, and Castro is confident the Andalusians’ “great potential” under new boss Jorge Sampaoli will shine through.

“We’re very excited and fearless,” the President told reporters via Mundo Deportivo.

“We have the motivation to enlarge our trophy cabinet with another title and keep growing.

“We hope to give our fans another reason for their pride. We have many new players and it’s good for them to find out what our fans are like, that they feel this warmth and desire of winning for many reasons: for our injured peers [Michael] Krohn-Dehli and even Coke.

“The challenge to beat Real Madrid is difficult because Los Blancos, even with injuries, are so good that they always have top players in reserve.

“Still, I’m aware of our great potential. We’re starting to see [Jorge] Sampaoli’s system, which seems risky, but so are we.

“For example, if we hadn’t risked buying Julio Baptista at the time, where would we be now?”
