Rakitic agent: Time to go…

Ivan Rakitic’s agent has sent a cryptic message on Twitter saying ‘I think it’s time to go’ after Barcelona signed Andre Gomes.

Sport reports the post from Miquel Sors, said to be one of Rakitic’s representatives, and notes the timing, coming the morning after it was confirmed La Blaugrana had bought the Valencia midfielder.

The report lists the midfielders now available to Luis Enrique – Gomes joining Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Denis Suarez, Sergi Roberto, Javier Mascherano and Rakitic himself – and postulates that while Sergi and Masche can both be used in defence, the position is too crowded for Rakitic’s liking.

Talks over a new contract between Barca and Rakitic’s camp have started but not gone very far, as it was said in January that there would be news ‘soon.’

It has though been reported elsewhere that Barca don’t plan on selling a midfielder to make way for Euro 2016 winner Gomes, who will be presented next week after Barca swooped when Real Madrid’s move for the 22-year-old broke down.

Sors has since moved to clarify his first tweet with a second, insisting he meant only that there is now a lot of competition in midfield, and not that Rakitic was ready to move on.
