‘Neymar could earn more leaving Barca’

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu acknowledges Neymar would earn more money if he left Camp Nou but ‘these stars would be impossible.’

Bartomeu told a Press conference that Neymar would in a few days’ time sign a new five-year contract with La Blaugrana and added he was never aware of Real Madrid trying to scupper the deal.

“Any Barca player could go to another club and they would earn more. The club has revenues and earns money. We have a great squad that has been difficult to put together. If they wanted to find a club to earn more they could, but playing with these stars, impossible,” Bartomeu said, AS reports.

Bartomeu also confirmed why Barca didn’t sign Nolito from Celta Vigo in January, with the Spain international now bound for Manchester City.

“We couldn’t’ sign him then because of an economic issue. We explained that to Luis Enrique. He’d have preferred to have the player but it couldn’t be,” Bartomeu admitted, citing the need to remain within the club statute wage cap.
