Barca confirm Umtiti, not Suarez

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu confirms a move for Samuel Umtiti but Denis Suarez’s return isn’t done yet.

Suarez was expected to re-sign from Villarreal but with the transfer market to open on July 1, Bartomeu admitted at a Press conference that the deal hasn’t been wrapped up yet, with AS suggesting Barca would prefer to offload a midfielder first, or may favour going for Valencia’s Andre Gomes instead.

Bartomeu said only regarding Suarez that his arrival ‘isn’t concrete’ yet but was more forthcoming on Umtiti, who is expected to join from Lyon with the fee revealed to be €25m. However, the transfer won’t be sealed until France’s involvement in Euro 2016 is at an end, with Umtiti part of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the competition.

“We need to speak to the player and he is with France. When the competition is over, we’ll take the appropriate steps, doctors and the rest. But since Lyon have made it official we have to confirm it’s true, there’s an agreement for €25m,” Bartomeu acknowledged.
