La Real watching Oyarzabal situation

Real Sociedad are keeping an eye on Mikel Oyarzabal’s situation as suitors gather, but the club remain sure he’ll stay.

Oyarzabal burst onto the scene last season and earned a regular place in Eusebio Sacristan’s squad as well as a spot in the group of players called by Vicente del Bosque to bolster Spain’s pre-Euro 2016 roster, and interest from elsewhere was increased by his presence with La Roja.

La Real in February moved to tie Oyarzabal down to a deal corresponding with his enhanced status in the first team and his first senior contract contains a release clause of €40m, which it’s felt should be enough to shield the club from advances elsewhere.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal are all mentioned as interested, as are Athletic Bilbao, who tried to get Oyarzabal into their youth set-up when he was younger.

The €40m clause is though, it’s noted, not necessarily enough to deter interest in 19-year-old with an international cap so La Real are going to watch closely while remaining calm over the situation.

There’s a possibility a renewed deal could be discussed with Oyarzabal’s agent to further tie down the starlets future but it won’t be pushed as he is on holiday, and his existing deal runs to 2021.
