Pepe: Cerezo talks too much

Pepe says Enrique Cerezo “talks too much” after the President claimed Atletico Madrid’s fans could start celebrating the Champions League at full-time.

The Neptune fountain in Madrid is a designated spot for Atleti fans to celebrate victories, and Cerezo urged those supporters to venture there at 23:00 CET, once the final had ended, although Cibeles saw most of the action as Los Blancos ultimately prevailed on penalties.

“We worked well with [Rafa] Benitez, but things didn’t go well with him and Zidane gave us another go,” the defender said after the game.

“He put a lot of trust in us, was close to the team and understood the dressing room very well. He gave us the necessary tranquillity to finish the season well.

“I’m happy to help my team and give joy to madridismo, so that they can celebrate La Undecima after a tough match, with a lot of wear, which was very tough mentally.

“It was very hot and we worked very hard in the two weeks before the final.

“We started very strongly and Atletico didn’t have a single shot on goal in the first half, but they tied our work and made it very difficult for us.

“Real Madrid fought back by being together, and when we had the ball we gave everything for the badge to be champions.

“Atletico’s President talks too much. What if he went to the Neptuno at 11…

“He could’ve gone but only to clean it because there’d have been nothing going on there. Everyone would’ve been at Cibeles [Madrid’s celebratory spot].”
