Malaga have confirmed the appointment of Juande Ramos as their new Coach on a three-year contract.
Ramos previously managed Malaga in the 2003-04 season, when he led the side to a 10th-place finish in La Liga, during a campaign that included Salva Ballesta’s 22 goals, a 5-1 victory over Barcelona and the arrival of eventual club legend Duda.
“His enviable track record and knowledge of football, La Liga, Malaga and the city make him a perfect figure for the Malaga dugout,” read part of a statement on Malaga’s official website.
“He is an exciting Coach to take on the challenges and future of this club and all the Malaga family. Welcome back to Malaga, Juande!”
The 61-year-old also coached the likes Rayo Vallecano, Real Betis and Espanyol in La Liga, while guiding Tottenham Hotspur to the 2008 League Cup and establishing the foundations for Dnipro’s run to the 2015 Europa League final.
However, his best achievements came between 2005 and 2007 at Sevilla, where he won a Copa del Rey and successive UEFA Cups, and in the second half of 2008-09, when he led Real Madrid to a runners-up berth in the League as caretaker.
Ramos replaces Javi Gracia, who ended his two-year spell at La Rosaleda for a lucrative move to Rubin Kazan.
