Getafe give Esnaider two more years

Juan Esnaider has agreed a two-year contract with relegated Getafe, with President Angel Torres revealing the Coach ‘didn’t hesitate.’

Former Juventus striker Esnaider was drafted in late in the campaign to replace Fran Escriba but couldn’t prevent the Madrid club’s relegation, but has had his short-term deal extended regardless.

“It’s a two-year project to try and [return to the Primera]. No one thought a team like Getafe could be 12th, get to two Cup finals, the UEFA Cup. We have to be positive,” Torres said, Marca reports.

“We believe Esnaider has excited the fans and did a good job, despite the last game. We are grateful and he wanted to continue. He didn’t hesitate and has signed a contract for two years. He’s willing to work and carry a project to the Primera. It won’t be easy.

“We have to tighten our belt. We’ll try to have the best project and it depends on the players doing their part to stay. We can have a good budget, as many as 30% of the players will stay. It’s too early [to say who]. We have to speak to their representatives and see about offers.

“It’s not as hard today when you go to the Segunda. Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, who have gone down four times in the 12 years we were in the Primera.”
