Isma Lopez: Sporting will survive

Sporting Gijon left-back Isma Lopez is convinced his team will retain their Primera status this weekend.

The Asturians, currently 18th in the table with 36 points, take on Villarreal at El Molinon and will be home and dry if they beat the Yellow Submarine and Getafe fail to win at Real Betis, while a draw would be good enough if Getafe are defeated and Rayo Vallecano are unable to claim three points at home to Levante.

“We are still alive and I think we are going to be safe, so this will be a learning curve for next season,” the 26-year-old [pictured, left] told a Press conference.

“This is the first year in the elite for many of us and perhaps we’ve made mistakes because of our inexperience, but that’s the price you pay.

“We have been playing better lately and are at home. We have to win. Getafe must win at Betis and that’s not easy and it will be a difficult game for them.

“But to speak about the Betis game makes us take our eye off the ball. We have to win our own game and can’t ask any other team to play the game of their life.

“We have to play the best game possible and it would be a shame if Betis drew or won and we lost our own match.

“Our aim was to reach the final day knowing we had been saved or what we had to do. It’s not been like that and we have to win and hope Betis make it tough for Getafe

“In the end, when you have reached your goal mentally it’s hard to raise your game, but we hope everything turns out well.”
