Celta Vigo’s Jony expects to face a ‘strong and intense’ Atletico Madrid on the final weekend of the season.
Atleti have nothing left to play for in La Liga, with the Champions League Final against Real Madrid on May 28, but Celta need the points to seal fifth place, from Athletic Bilbao, though Jony doesn’t want them to come by default.
“Even though they’re out of contention for the title we’ll face an opponent who will want to win. First, because they’re at home and then because they’ll want a good feeling for the final,” he said, AS reports.
“Atletico are characterised by the intensity with which they play in all their games, they play like that or not at all. I’m sure we’ll find a tough and strong Atleti, who’ll want revenge for us knocking them out the Copa del Rey.
“We play for fifth, which is very important, not only because we’d have a longer holiday but the club would receive more money and we could avoid earlier games, depending on how Sevilla do in the Europa League.”
