‘Betis won’t play for a point’

Juan Merino promises Real Betis will go to Eibar looking for all three points, not the one that will guarantee another year in the Primera.

Betis would also be safe depending on results from teams below them but Merino told the Press he doesn’t want to have to rely on anyone else.

“It’s our most important game. We don’t think about our rivals. We think of ourselves, with a point we’re mathematically saved. We’re going to go out to win, we can’t go to draw, we want to confirm our safety as soon as possible,” he said, AS reports.

Merino’s future isn’t clear, however, with reports Betis are looking for a new Coach, and Gus Poyet touted as the favourite now.

“Betis want to stay up and then we’ll discuss the future. I would like to talk about it after the last game, against Getafe. We’ll give everything until then. The club has the right to speak with Juan Merino and anyone they want,” he continued.

“I enjoy being Betis Coach but I don’t think about the future, football is about the present. Betis is above everything. I don’t want Betis to be in the Segunda. We can’t talk if the target hasn’t been reached yet and we have to be as high up as possible.”
