Athletic faced Spanish opposition in the last 16, where they dispatched Valencia 2-2 on away goals, and they must do so once more in the next round, with the tournament holders next up.
Villarreal’s reward for overcoming Bayer Leverkusen without conceding a goal, meanwhile, is a tie with Czech giant-killers Sparta Prague, who defeated Lazio 3-0 away from home on Thursday.
The ties will commence on April 7 and conclude a week later.
