Ernesto Valverde has warned Athletic Bilbao that Sunday’s visit of Real Betis in La Liga “could pose a trap”.
Athletic could move as high as fifth in the table with victory over a similarly-resurgent Betis this weekend, providing Sevilla fail to beat Villarreal, and the Coach urged his players not to take their opponents lightly.
“It’s a game which could pose a trap,” he said at a Press conference.
“We come from a tough match and must make more of an effort to prepare mentally for these 90 minutes, which are very important for the League.
“There’s Sevilla-Villarreal [also being played] and, depending on the outcome of that game, we could move into fifth place.
“Since we’ve approached a game like this in a good position, we mustn’t fail now.
“[Betis] will try to take advantage of the fact that we’ve come from [a big] effort on Thursday, but we’ll look for the win to continue our positive momentum.
“[On the state of the San Mames pitch], I hope it’s good.”
