‘Madrid have no style of play’

Angel Cappa, Real Madrid assistant in the mid-1990s, believes the club will continue to miss out on trophies until an identity is developed as at Barcelona.

Cappa, who worked alongside Jorge Valdano during his time on the bench, is quoted by AS telling Colombian radio station RCN that a lack of strategy is holding back Los Blancos.

“Madrid doesn’t play any way, they have no style of play, they don’t follow a project – not just now but for a long time,” Cappa argued, with James Rodriguez in mind specifically.

“There have been constant changes of Coach and way of playing. Until this is consolidated James is going to depend on what he can do individually.

“They sack one Coach for another who is completely different in the way they see football and it shows on the pitch.

“Barcelona play a style for many years but not only the first team. All the ranks do the same, so when Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquets or Lionel Messi arrive, they know the style.”
