Ernesto Valverde dismissed rumours linking him to Real Madrid. ‘My team is Athletic Bilbao.’
Reports from Spain on Monday claimed Florentino Perez was considering Valverde for the Santiago Bernabeu bench, depending on how Los Blancos fared in the Champions League under Zinedine Zidane.
It was claimed by Sport, AS reports, that Perez had also approached Valverde a year ago as a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, and Valverde was asked about the rumours when picking up an award presented by Panenka magazine.
“I’m pleased with this award and I don’t know why you’re asking me [about Real Madrid],” he said, wryly, AS notes.
“I’m very pleased with this award because it’s a magazine I like. Things that are published by the Press, talk to the Press. My team is Athletic.”
