Abelardo felt Sporting Gijon should have had a penalty but ‘Barcelona are from another galaxy.’
Sporting were beaten 3-1 at El Molinon and it was Barca who were given a spot kick, missed by Luis Suarez, but Abelardo told reporters he’d heard his side had a good claim rejected.
“We tried plugging gaps and breaking quickly but obviously it’s not easy,” he noted, AS reports.
“I thought we had a great game and we had a chance to make it 2-2. I’m told there was a penalty, but I haven’t seen it. We did our best.
“Barca are from another galaxy. There’s a Barca player who costs more than Sporting’s entire budget.”
The game saw Abelardo reunited with school friend and former teammate Luis Enrique, a meeting the former appreciated.
“We’re not in love…at worst he’s a great friend,” Abelardo said of Lucho.
“We usually have a lot of contact. It was nice to get together at El Molinon.”
