Valencia appoint Pitarch

Former Valencia player Jesus Garcia Pitarch has been confirmed as the club’s new sporting director, a post he held between 2002 and 2004.

Pitarch, a winger in his playing days, represented Los Che between 1983 and 1985 and returned after a career at the likes of Logrones and Villarreal to oversee the youth system in 2000.

He was appointed sporting director two years later and also held the same post at Atletico Madrid, was President of Hercules and director general of Real Zaragoza.

Valencia chairwoman Lay Hoon Chan welcomed Pitarch’s arrival, citing his experience and past at Mestalla.

“We’re very happy with this appointment because we have someone on board who is not only a proven professional but also one who is rooted in Valencia,” a statement on the club’s official site read.

“Jesus has enjoyed success at the highest levels in his career and knows Valencia well. We believe he is the ideal person for such an important position.”
