Fajr: Eibar should be relegated

Deportivo La Coruna’s Elche loanee Faycal Fajr claims “it’s a surprise to play Eibar because they should be in La Segunda”.

Elche were relegated from La Liga last season for non-payment of tax, despite a mid-table placing, with Eibar – ending the campaign in the bottom three – reinstated as a result of the Andalucians’ punishment.

Fajr was one of the players who departed Martinez Valero in a late summer scramble, albeit on a season-long loan, and he is still bitter about how the saga panned out.

“It’s a surprise to play Eibar because they should be in La Segunda,” he was quoted as saying by Marca ahead of Saturday’s match.

“Still, they are in La Primera and have had a good season, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow. We know it’ll be a tough game.

“I was expecting concrete offers [in the summer], yet only Eibar made me one.

“A day or two later, Depor called me and now I’m here.

“After this match, we begin our holiday, but we must think about the League until then.

“If we do things like usual, we’ll go into our holiday with more serenity.

“[On him returning to Elche, providing they were promoted back to La Liga this season], I’d like to stay [at Depor] for many years.”
