Ernesto Valverde isn’t having nightmares about Athletic Bilbao receiving a Copa del Rey shock despite being on the receiving end once before.
Valverde was in charge at San Mames in 2003 when Athletic were knocked out by Segunda B Torrelavega, and told a Press conference prior to facing RB Linense that he hasn’t been reliving that embarrassment.
“I haven’t had a single nightmare. As a player I was eliminated by other teams and I’m not the only one,” he said, Marca reports.
“I know what these games are like, and I know what can happen if you have a bad day. One or two errors and you’re struggling uphill.
“We saw how Atletico Madrid struggled against Reus. We drew away and won at home against a Segunda B team last year. It’s easier if you win the first leg.
“Linense are here because they’ve won games. These matches have their difficulties. We don’t want a bad day and we suffered a lot last year against Alcoyano. We’ll see if we can play a good game.”
