Barca, Madrid dominate awards

Barcelona and Real Madrid dominated the LFP Awards for 2014-15, Lionel Messi winning Best Player and Cristiano Ronaldo voted the Fans’ Five-Star Player.

Representatives of La Blaugrana also took home prizes for Best Goalkeeper, Best Coach, Best South American and Best Forward, won by Claudio Bravo, Luis Enrique, Neymar and Messi respectively.

Enrique beat Sevilla’s Unai Emery and Fran Escriba, now at Getafe but recognised for taking Elche to mid-table before their administrative relegation, to the trainer’s award.

Madrid took the Best Defender award through Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez was chosen as the Best Midfielder, while Ronaldo took the fans’ award in a vote of social media users.

The only non-Clasico winner for the Primera awards was Valencia’s Sofiane Feghouli, who took the trophy for La Liga’s Best African Player.

Ivan Cuellar and Bernado, of Sporting Gijon, were recognised for their part in Sporting’s promotion by winning the Segunda awards for Best Goalkeeper and Best Defender respectively.

Best Forward went to Real Betis’ Ruben Castro, also now plying his trade in the top flight.

The Segunda’s Best Midfielder gong went to Real Valladolid’s Oscar Gonzalez and Pablo Machin, who took Girona to the brink of promotion, was named Best Coach.
