Sporting working on a right-back

Abelardo wants Sporting Gijon to sign a right-back in January but the situation is complicated by their transfer embargo.

Sporting are only allowed to sign players according to the terms set out by the LFP, and sporting director Nico Rodriguez is both scouring the market for players who fit the parameters and trying to get the League to loosen the purse strings.

Abelardo has pin-pointed the right of the team’s defence as a weak spot and could move Luis Hernandez there, but feels Hernandez is operating well at centre-back and doesn’t want to upset the balance, Marca reports.

Publically Abelardo has downplayed the chance of new faces but privately Los Rojiblancos are said to be optimistic of bolstering the squad when the winter transfer window opens.

Departures are possible but none of the team’s most important players are expected to go, though sales would allow Sporting to sign a little more freely.

Marca conclude by revealing there is a lot of interest from players in moving to El Molinon, but the finances are the crucial factor.
