Ernesto Valverde admitted Athletic Bilbao were deservedly punished for their mistakes during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Granada in La Liga.
An early own goal from Aymeric Laporte, followed by Isaac Success’ clincher on the hour mark, abruptly ended Los Leones’ run of five straight victories, and the Coach had no complaints with the result after the final whistle.
“It was uncomfortable and rough. We hoped to have played a better match,” he said.
“We had chances in the first half and felt if we pulled one back, we could have won the match.
“Granada were fuelled by our mistakes. Our opponents put us under hardship but we should’ve managed the game better.
“We didn’t play the game we wanted, but we had chances to have at least drawn.”
