Fernandez Borbalan to ref Clasico

David Fernandez Borbalan has been named as the referee for Saturday’s game at Santiago Bernabeu between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] announced the appointment, Marca reports, and it is Fernandez Borbalan’s third Clasico.

He took charge of the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana in 2011, won 3-2 by Barca, a tie more remembered for Jose Mourinho poking the eye of Tito Vilanova. The bad-tempered match saw seven yellow cards and three reds.

The Andalusian official’s second Clasico came a few months later, in December of the same year, when he took charge of Barca’s 3-1 win at the Bernabeu.
