Valverde hails Williams ‘golazo’

Ernesto Valverde paid tribute to Inaki Williams after the forward’s ‘golazo’ in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol.

The Basque starlet, in similar fashion to Neymar later in the day, performed a ‘sombrero’ flick over his marker, before firing the ball past Pau Lopez on the volley, leaving the Coach to hail the strike as “one of the best”.

“It was a tough match, with many duels and lots of clashes,” he said after the game.

“We’ve overcome a difficult week after the European game on Thursday against Partizan.

“It was our toughest week before the international break due to the short time frame.

“We’re making up our deficit in the table and we have to keep going.

“[On Williams’ wonder goal], I don’t know if it was planned or not, but he took the ball over his marker and scored one of the best goals we’ve seen around here lately, perhaps on par with [Mikel] San Jose’s [in the Supercopa against Barcelona].

“The most important thing was that he opened the scoring and made the game a little easier for us because the beginning [of the match] was difficult.”
