LFP President Javier Tebas has confirmed Real Madrid didn’t ask for help in pushing David De Gea’s move from Manchester United over the line.
The deal couldn’t be completed before Monday’s transfer deadline although the exact circumstances of why aren’t clear.
Both clubs have released statements outlining their version of events, Madrid responding first on Tuesday afternoon and United replying later the same day.
“There’s no ‘De Gea case’ as far as La Liga is concerned because the player was registered with the competition and the documentation wasn’t submitted in time,” Tebas acknowledged, AS reports.
“I spoke to Madrid that night. They called me and explained the situation knowing the deadline had passed. They knew the deadline.
“I didn’t feel under any pressure. They explained the situation after midnight. I understood their position and that of the player but there was nothing I could do.
“They didn’t call to ask for special treatment because Madrid knows the rules.
“I’m a lawyer and I know there can be two, three or four versions in these cases. It’s bad for the League that De Gea isn’t here.
“I would have liked to see him play here because he is a Spanish player at a very high level. The circumstances mean it couldn’t be.
“Madrid’s version of what happened is, as far as I know, the closest one.”
