Madrid De Gea statement in full

Real Madrid’s full statement regarding Monday’s developments for the proposed transfers of David De Gea and Keylor Navas with Manchester United can be found below.

‘After the events of yesterday in relation to the alleged signing of David De Gea, Real Madrid wish to state:

1.      Manchester United did not open negotiations for the rights of David De Gea until yesterday morning.

2.      Real Madrid, despite the difficulties of an operation of this kind on the last day of registration, agreed to these conversations.

3.      When Manchester United entered this negotiation yesterday morning it was subject to an agreement with Real Madrid player Keylor Navas to join the British club this season, and reports that they were in contact with representatives of the aforementioned player.

4.      Real Madrid and Manchester United reached a rapid agreement on the transfer of both players. After the drafting of the relevant contractual documents required to proceed with sufficient time to process both the FIFA Transfer Matching System [TMS] and registration with the Spanish Football League [LFP], Real Madrid forwarded the contracts to Manchester United at 13.39 Spanish time.

5.      Manchester United sent its contracts eight hours later, at 21.43 Spanish time, including minor modifications. Not being relevant, all changes were accepted immediately by Real Madrid with the intention to register the player with both the TMS and the LFP.

6.      After signatures from both David De Gea and Keylor Navas, Real Madrid sent the English club said contracts signed at 23.32 Spanish time. We then waited to receive the final documents signed by Manchester United.

7.      Manchester United reached a final agreement with representatives of Keylor Navas at 23.53 Spanish time and it was at that time the contract was sent to the player to be signed.

8.      Manchester United entered into the TMS data for the transfer of David De Gea at 00.00 Spanish time, not those of Keylor Navas, simultaneously sending to Madrid the signed contracts. Real Madrid received the full documentation at 00.02 Spanish time and tries to access the TMS but it is already closed.

9.      At 00.26 Spanish time the computer system of the TMS invites Real Madrid to file the documentation of David De Gea, given that the transfer window remains open in England. Real Madrid, in the possible event of a contentious transfer, decides to refer the contracts to the LFP, knowing the time had expired.

10.  In the final analysis, Real Madrid have done everything necessary, and at all times, to carry out these two transfers.
