Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has dismissed any speculation Neymar could leave for Manchester United. “We want him to retire here.”
There had been reports of a gigantic offer from the Premier League club to Barca for the Brazil international but Bartomeu has told a Catalan radio programme that far from discussing the forward’s exit, the club’s higher-ups are preparing a new contract.
“Within a few months we will begin to discuss Neymar’s renewal,” he said, Mundo Deportivo reports.
“We want him to stay at Barca for many more years. We don’t want him to leave. He’s young and we want him to retire at Barca.”
Bartomeu also spoke about Pedro Rodriguez, who last week left Barca for Chelsea, and the prospect of replacing the winger.
“Pedro will return someday,” Bartomeu predicted.
“If there are no more injuries then we won’t make any more signings this summer.”
Bartomeu also touched on Lionel Messi and the Ballon d’Or, predicting a fifth success for the Argentine.
“From the way everything looks, it seems Messi will win every single trophy,” he predicted.
