‘Barca had 10 players and an alien’

Sevilla President Jose Castro pointed to Lionel Messi as the difference as Barcelona claimed the UEFA Super Cup in a remarkable game.

Messi scored a brace of first half free kicks after Ever Banega’s own dead ball put Los Rojiblancos in front, Messi’s pair coming as part of a Barca fight back that put the Catalans 4-1 in front.

But Sevilla recovered to make the game 4-4 and take it to extra time, where it was decided by Pedro Rodriguez, on as a substitute.

“I’m very proud of my players and my team. As the hymn says, this team never gives up,” Castro said, AS reports.

“We had chances even at 5-4. Barcelona are a very powerful team, with 10 players and an extra-terrestrial in Messi.

“I think Sevilla have shown to all of European football what we have, that we weren’t here by chance and we fought until the end.

“We showed what Sevilla means. We have a great Coach, a great team and great supporters. We were close to taking the trophy.”
