Cruyff: €80m for Pogba absurd

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff says it would be ‘absurd’ if the club signed Juventus’ Paul Pogba for a fee of €80m.

The Catalan giants have been heavily linked with a move for the Frenchman throughout the close season, with officials of the Spanish and Italian champions having met to discuss a potential deal two weeks ago.

With Barca’s presidential elections having not yet taken place, it remains unclear as to whether the Camp Nou side will press ahead with plans to sign Pogba this summer. In any case, Cruyff has made his feelings on the figures being talked about very clear.

“The figures being talked about seem absurd to me,” the Dutchman told Cadena Cope. “€80m for Pogba is absurd.”

Cruyff went on to echo presidential candidate Joan Laporta’s sentiments by adding that big money transfers are getting in the way of Barca producing their own stars.

“Barca were producing a major brand of player such as Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, who did not cost the club anything, and that is being lost.”
