Espanyol’s Garcia joins Al Rayyan

Espanyol have announced the departure of captain Sergio Garcia to Qatari side Al Rayyan for a reported €1.5m.

The Catalans also confirmed on their official website that the 32-year-old will bid farewell to the club’s supporters at a Press conference on Tuesday alongside President Joan Collet.

Espanyol had always made it clear that they would not deprive Garcia of one final pay day, despite the player rejecting a “brutal” offer from China midway through last season.

The attacker scored 45 goals in 162 appearances for Los Periquitos following his arrival from Real Betis in the summer of 2010.

Garcia joins former Barcelona rival and Al Sadd-bound Xavi Hernandez in deflecting to the Qatar Stars League from La Liga.
