Josep Maria Bartomeu has refused to be drawn on speculation of an agreement with Atletico Madrid’s Koke should he be voted in as Barcelona President.
It was reported earlier on Tuesday that Bartomeu had a deal with an unnamed Spanish midfielder currently playing in La Liga and Koke would fit the criteria.
Bartomeu has spoken at his campaign headquarters and was asked about potential signings as it is traditional for candidates to promise new signings.
“We’re all looking for players to excite the members but the Coach has to be convinced. It always happens in a campaign. No one is confirmed and no deal is closed,” he insisted.
“Koke? I won’t talk about names. I can’t say whether I’ve spoken to any President, but it’s possible. There aren’t negotiations with anyone. It’s normal for this gossip and it excites the fans.”
The player’s camp has, meanwhile, insisted he will stay at Atletico no matter who is the Barca President after the July 18 election.
