Barjuan positive for Madrid test

Almeria boss Sergi Barjuan has called on his players to stand up and be counted ahead of Wednesday’s visit to face Real Madrid.

The Andalusians are two points above the relegation zone with five games to go and Sergi acknowledges his players will be confronted with a tough task at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We need to be tighter against the big teams so they don’t destroy you,” the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid full-back told a Press conference.

“Last weekend against Eibar we did things well and improved. Every day we are spending many hours working together ahead of the challenges we have in front of us, which can be so difficult to achieve.

“If by any chance we suffer an adverse result against Madrid then we’ll need to draw conclusions from the game for next Monday’s match against Celta Vigo, although we must be positive.

“We know what we’re going into and are aware that Madrid can wear you down, so I expect us to do a lot running.

“Otherwise, if we let them get into a favourable situation, they will make us do that,” he explained.
